Mine to Hold

the scent of smoke
                               seeps underneath
my bedclothes —
                            bastard crows
snarl at a squirrel
                            sailing from oak
to jacaranda
                    struck by sun’s
blinding blows
                       a hummingbird tastes
trumpet by trumpet
                               shivering petioles
this morning’s majesty
                                    mine to hold
fair friend
               today & forever
